Lou decided that it was enough with chores for the morning. She tossed her pitchfork aside and headed down the aisleway to Noteworthy's stall. There, she strapped his halter over his nose and lead him into the aisle. After he was secured on the crossties Lou retrieved her grooming kit and tack. Noteworthy could do with a workout after being cooped up due to the rain the last couple of days. She took out her back curry comb and dug into Noteworthy's coat, the stallion leaned into her as she groomed, enjoying the attention. Noteworthy nickered as she switch to the hard brush and then the soft. Finally, Lou began to comb his mane and tail, then she picked his hooves and wiped his coat with a rag to make it shine.
Lou chose black dressage wraps for Noteworthy's legs. She weaved the wraps around his legs until all four were securely fastened. Next, Lou reached for her dressage pad. It was a stunning white shade, Lou smiled, she had bought it new recently for her workouts with Noteworthy. She had even had his name embroidered into the pad. Lou swung the pad over hisb back, and once she had ensured the pad was even on both sides she draped her black dressage saddle over his back as well. Lou secured the girth around Noteworthy and then reached for her bridle. Lou slipped her fingers into the sides of Noteworthy's mouth and inserted the bit quickly. Next, Lou fixed the straps over Noteworthy's ears and latched the buckle.
She brought Noteworthy's reins over his head and gently pushed her grooming kit against the side of the wall. She led Noteworthy down the aisleway and out the back door, toward the dressage ring. Luckily, today's heat had dried the ring out and it was not swamped with water. Lou mounted Noteworthy and they rode into the ring. She double checked her stirrup leathers in case Amy had been using her saddle. Satisfied with the height she rode forward and into the ring.
Lou and Noteworthy headed directly for the center of the ring. She practiced her salute, and they began their routine. After a brief walk, Lou asked Noteworthy for an easy trot. He lifted his legs with ease, pacing around the outer path of the ring. Noteworthy kept his head in a perfect arch, his bay neck rippling beneath the sunlight. Lou smiled, pleased with his musculature. Lou completed a figure eight at a trot, just to loosen up Noteworthy's muscles before collecting a canter in the reverse direction.
Noteworthy was eager to perform, his legs snapped into place and he propelled himself forward with ease. Lou slowed Noteworthy back to a trot, they reversed once more and picked up an elegant half-pass across the arena. They completed the half-pass effortlessly and moved across the ring. On the outer path, Lou asked Noteworthy for her favorite move in dressage: flying lead changes. They performed the flying lead changes the length of the ring and collected a graceful canter once more. After one complete circuit of a canter and a few more dressage moves she slowed Noteworthy to a walk and allowed him to stretch his neck out. She cooled Noteworthy off for ten minutes or so, then they headed up the path to the barn again.
Back in the barn Lou untacked Noteworthy and put away her equipment. She'd return after turning Noteworthy out to clean it. When Noteworthy was in his pasture, she returned to the barn to wipe everything down. Satisfied with the condition over everything, Lou went into the office to make a few phone calls before her next workout.
